HBO has released the first teaser and new photos of its new original series "The Deuce". Set in early 1970s through the mid-1980s, the drama follows the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York's Times Square.
The video doesn't reveal much of the plot details, but sees Maggie Gyllenhaal in her role as a prostitute named Candy. Wearing skimpy clothes and a blonde wig, she's featured seducing two men in a car.
James Franco takes dual role on the series, playing a hard-scrabble bartender named Vincent and his ne'er-do-well twin Frankie. He's seen involved in a brawl in a scene, but it's unclear which of his characters that gets into trouble.
From "The Wire" creator David Simon and longtime collaborator George Pelecanos ("Treme"), the show explores the rough-and-tumble world that existed there until the rise of HIV, the violence of the cocaine epidemic, and the renewed real estate market ended the bawdy turbulence.
Margarita Levieva, Gary Carr, Lawrence Gilliard Jr., Emily Meade and Dominique Fishback also star on the porn drama. The eight-episode season premieres Sunday, September 10 at 9/8c on HBO.
