STX Entertainment and EuropaCorp have debuted character posters for "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" ahead of its July 21 release date. The characters featured in the posters include Dane DeHaan as space cop Valerian, Cara Delevingne as his partner Laureline, Rihanna as shapeshifter Bubble and aliens called The Pearls.

Also featured in the posters are intriguing and bizzare aliens called Doghan and Daguis, K-Tron, Melo and Omelite.

The movie, directed by Luc Besson, is dubbed the most expensive French film in history. According to Cineuropa, "Valerian" was made with a spectacular budget of 197.47 million euros or approximately $209 million. This sparks questions whether the massive budget will pay off, considering that mainstream moviegoers in United States may not find the project familiar. However, report said that "Valerian" might have a huge opening in France rather than in the U.S.

"Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" is based on French science fiction comics "Valerian and Laureline", written by Pierre Christin and illustrated by Jean-Claude Mezieres. The movie follows space cops Valerian and Laureline who are ordered to do a mission in intergalactic city of Alpha. A great threat emerges in the city and the two cops must find a way to eliminate it.

Other cast members include Ethan Hawke, Clive Owen and John Goodman.
