The 19-year-old actress announces on Twitter that she just 'came out as bisexual to [her] family and friends.'

AceShowbiz - Shannon Purser posted an emotional message on Twitter on April 18. The "Stranger Things" actress said that it was time to "get personal," revealing her sexual orientation as well as her journey in understanding her current state.

"I've only just recently come out as bisexual to my family and friends," she began."It's something I am still processing and trying to understand and I don't like talking about it very much," Shannon continued. She explained she was "very very new to the LGBT community" and addressed her now-deleted tweet about the "angry Beronica shippers" which she deemed thoughtless.

Only a few hours before, she responded to fans who accused her of "queerbaiting." However, her response had upset "Beronica shippers," fans of Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge who are the female characters of The CW's "Riverdale". Fans felt that the actress had singled them out, making them feel "alienated."

"I wasn't referring to all Beronica shippers, just the ones who had been particularly cruel to me personally. Either way, it wasn't a wise or kind thing to say and I'm disappointed in myself," Shannon stated in her message. She concluded her message with an apology, saying, "I apologize to those who were hurt."

Prior to her confession, the "Riverdale" star tweeted about "getting comfortable with your sexuality" on April 11. "Getting comfortable with your sexuality is a process. It's going to be ok. I wish I'd known that sooner," she wrote. In continuation to the previous tweet, she continued, "Another thing I wish I'd known about sexuality is to take it slow. It can define you as much as you want it to."

She also shared that she felt anxious about having to deal with it. "Either way, I know what it's like to have anxiety about it," she said. "Especially trying to come to terms with it and my faith. It can be really scary... But it's gonna be ok. You're going to be ok. No, you're going to be great."
