The first trailer of "The Little Mermaid (2017)" live-action movie has been released. Rather than a Disney movie, this version of "The Little Mermaid" is based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale of the same name and produced by Conglomerate Media and Kingsway Productions.

The movie will star Oscar winner Shirley MacLaine as well as Poppy Drayton, William Moseley, Loreto Peralta and Gina Gershon. According to Deadline, the live-action movie follows a young girl named Elle (played by Peralta) and her older brother Cam (portrayed by Moseley) who travel to Mississippi to find a beautiful woman who is believed to be a real mermaid.

In the first part of the trailer, MacLaine's character reads her granddaughters a fairytale about mermaid. "There's no such thing as mermaid," says one of the little girls. MacLaine's character replies, "You won't say that if you meet one." The following scene sees Cam being sent by his boss to a circus in a small town in Mississippi. Cam is ordered to report a story about Miracle Mermaid Elixir in the circus.

As Cam and his sister Elle explore the circus, they see a beautiful woman who is displayed in a huge aquarium. Cam and Elle later befriend the woman who is believed to be a real mermaid. As time goes by, the mermaid's life is threatened and both Cam and Elle try their best to save her.

"The Little Mermaid" is handled by Swen Group for the international distribution. Chris Bouchard co-directs the movie along with Blake Harris, who also writes the script based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairtyale. The movie is set to hit U.S. theaters in summer.
