One the big surprises at the Yeezy season 5 show was the Muslim model wearing hijab on the runway. Halima Aden, who competed at Miss Minnesota last year, was among the models showcasing Kanye West's new collection at the New York Fashion Week.
A Somali-American who was born in a Kenyan refugee camp, 19-year-old Aden walked the catwalk in a floor-length fur coat. "Everyone has been so welcoming and accepting," she testified in a statement to Vogue after the fashion show. It marked her Fashion Week debut.
"I had the opportunity to briefly meet Kanye and Kim at my fitting yesterday, so that was fun!" the model gushed. She also praised the stylist Carine Roitfeld. "She and her team are simply the best. Since she styled the show today, I knew I would be comfortable and wearing something that would be acceptable to my beliefs," she said.
Kanye's wife Kim Kardashian was joined by sister Kylie Jenner and her boyfriend Tyga in the audience.
