'Star Trek: Discovery' New Set Photo Offers First Look at New Klingons

Although the costumes look similar, the new Klingons will apparently feature more raised ridge on the back of their head instead of hair.

AceShowbiz - "Star Trek: Discovery" has just begun filming and a new set photo taken at Pinewood Studios Toronto is already leaked online. The image offers a first look at one of "Star Trek" most iconic races, the Klingons.

The photo was captured by someone who is believed to be working on the set of the new show. "Hanging out with my new Klingon Crew today on set of the new #StarTrek," wrote an Instagram user who first posted it. But the user now claims that the characters shown in the image may not be Klingons. He only thought "they kinda looked like Klingons."

The picture shows a group of Klingons gathering together during a break in production. Some klingons are seen talking to each other while other Klingons are enjoying their drinks. However, they don't look the same as previous Klingons in other works in the "Star Wars" franchise. The costumes indeed look similar but the makeup looks different. Their heads feature more raised ridge with a complete lack of hair.

If this really is the look of the Klingons, this won't be the first time they look different. The aliens look drastically different between their appearances in "Star Trek" original series and "Star Trek: The Next Generation". On "Star Trek: Enterprise" it was revealed that Klingon physiology had been altered for a long but temporary period of time by the Klingon augment virus, which was a failed experiment that was part of a perceived augmentation arms race between humans and the Klingon Empire.

"Star Trek: Discovery" stars Chris Obi, Shazad Latif and Mary Chieffo as the most prominent Klingons on the series. Obi will play Klingon leader T'Kuvma, Latif portrays Klingon commanding officer Kol and Chieffo takes the role of L'Rell, the battle deck commander of Klingon ship. The upcoming CBS series also stars Michelle Yeoh as the Starfleet captain Georgiou, Doug Jones as Starfleet science officer Lt. Saru, Anthony Rapp as astromycologist Lt. Stamets and James Frain as Spock's father.
