Tarek El Moussa is ending his marriage to Christina El Moussa. His lawyer confirmed to PEOPLE on Monday, January 9 that the reality TV star had filed for divorce from his wife a month after they announced their split.

Last month, the "Flip or Flop" couple shocked fans when they said in a joint statement that they had broken up after 7 years of marriage. They also mentioned an incident that happened six months earlier, during which cops were called to their Orange County home after Tarek ran from the house with a gun.

But Tarek at the time denied he was going to use the gun to harm himself. He told police that the whole thing was a "misunderstanding" as he merely went "on a hike and took a gun for protection from mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes and rattlesnakes."

Following their separation, Tarek and Christina remain cordial for the sake of their children, 6-year-old daughter Taylor and 1-year-old son Brayden.

They've also found themselves new lovers, with Christina now dating family contractor Gary Anderson. He's reportedly the guy who called the cops after seeing Tarek left the home in May with a weapon. As for Tarek, he had a short-lived fling with the family's former nanny.
