Golden Globes 2017: 'The Crown' Is Surprise Winner in Drama Series

The Netflix series is hailed as Best Drama Series and its star Claire Foy is named best actress in drama series.

AceShowbiz - "The Crown" shone at the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards which is still underway at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The Netflix series took home the coveted Best Drama Series Award, beating out critically acclaimed and popular shows like "Game of Thrones", "Stranger Things", "This Is Us" and "Westworld".

The rookie drama about the life of Queen Elizabeth II from her wedding in 1947 to the present day also claimed a trophy in Best Performance by an Actress in a Drama Series, thanks to Claire Foy's performance as the British Queen. Her strong competitors included Caitriona Balfe ("Outlander"), Keri Russell ("The Americans"), Winona Ryder ("Stranger Things") and Evan Rachel Wood ("Westworld").

Only a few winners in TV categories left to be announced at the Sunday, January 8 ceremony, which is hosted by Jimmy Fallon. The show also presents awards for the best in movie.
