Guy Ritchie is circling the upcoming new take on live-action Aladdin movie. According to a scoop from The Hollywood Reporter, the director is in negotiations with Disney to serve behind the lens for the feature film project tentatively titled "Genies".

John August ("Corpse Bride", "Frankenweenie") is tapped to write script for the new adaptation. Dan Lin who produced "The Lego Movie" and Ritchie's "Sherlock Holmes" movie will produce the film through his Lin Pictures banner.

The Aladdin story is a Middle Eastern-set folk tale of a young man granted three wishes by a genie trapped in a lamp. The genie was voiced by the late Robin Williams in the original 1992 film which won Oscars for Best Score and Best Song. Rumor has it, the remake will have some of the original musical elements.
