The Matt Copeland of Syfy's TV series 'Aftermath' has been tapped to star as Ilya in the follow-up to 'Pacific Rim' opposite John Boyega and Scott Eastwood.

"Pacific Rim 2" has found its new cadet in Levi Meaden. Variety has reported that Meaden will star as an "irreverent and offbeat" cadet named Ilya in the follow-up to "Pacific Rim", joining "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" actor John Boyega, "Suicide Squad" star Scott Eastwood and newcomer Cailee Spaeny.

The film will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight from a script co-written by Guillermo del Toro, Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder and Travis Beacham. This will be the first Blockbuster movie that DeKnight's directing, after he wrote for and directed TV shows which included "Daredevil" and "Smallville".

Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni and del Toro will produce the film along with Boyega and Femi Oguns through their production company, Upper Room Entertainment. Cale Boyter exec-produces the project that will begin production this November in Australia and will also film a portion in China. The sci-fi movie is expected to hit U.S. theaters on February 23, 2018.

Meaden previously appeared in the final season of Netflix's "The Killing", Syfy's "Olympus" and The CW's "The 100". The young actor portrays Matt Copeland on Syfy's new series "Aftermath" which also stars Anne Heche and James Tupper. Scheduled to premiere on September 27, the series centers on a family battling for survival when civilization comes to an apocalyptic end.
