A TV movie based on Britney Spears' life is in the works at Lifetime. The network is developing a biopic entitled "Britney" that will capture her ups and downs, from her Louisiana upbringing to stardom, and from her fall from grace to her triumphant return to the spotlight.

Natasha Bassett ("Hail Caesar") has been cast as the Princess of Pop. Anne-Marie Hess ("Perfect High") is writing the script, with Leslie Libman ("NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service", "The Vampire Diaries") on board to direct. Filming on the two-hour movie will begin next month in Vancouver for a 2017 premiere.

The film's official description reads, "Britney Jean Spears was just a young girl from Louisiana trying to make a name for herself in the music scene when her talent became undeniable to all those around her. While handlers soon began planning her every movie, Britney found solace with fellow pop singer Justin Timberlake."

"Tragically, as Britney's star continued to shine, her private life crumbled after the divorce of her parents and her tabloid breakup with Justin. Her personal behavior soon eclipsed her pop icon success as a quickie marriage to childhood friend and later, an ill-fated marriage to dancer Kevin Federline, became the talk of the world. With her life spiraling out of control, Britney hit rock bottom, lost custody of her sons and was placed under her father's conservatorship. But despite her past troubles, Britney has battled back to rebuild her career to its former glory, proving to everyone that she's a timeless force in entertainment."

Spears currently has a Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino titled "Britney: Piece of Me". She is set to release her ninth studio album "Glory" on August 26. She will also perform at the 2016 MTV Music Awards on Sunday, August 28.
