An autopsy report released on the death of Prince has revealed that he died from an accidental overdose of the fentanyl, but investigators aren't certain how the 57-year-old singer ingested the powerful opioid. New report suggests that the late superstar might have mistakenly taken the drug.
A source with knowledge of the investigation tells Minneapolis Star Tribune that pills seized from the Purple One's Paisley Park compound were marked as hydrocodone but actually contained fentanyl. This leads to a theory that Prince took the pills not knowing they contained the drug.
On how the pills could be mislabeled, there are two theories. It's either pharmaceutical manufacturer mislabeled the pills or the pills were illegally manufactured and obtained illegally.
Prince was found dead at his home on April 21. Fentanyl is an opioid 25 to 50 times more powerful than heroin usually prescribed to manage unbearable pain in cancer patients or after surgeries. His manner of death was determined as "accident."
