RHCP's drummer Chad Smith wrote on his own Twitter page, "No one's more disappointed than us that we couldn't perform tonight. Sending love and a speedy recovery to my brother Anthony."

After Kiedis was taken to hospital, Smith and his bandmates Flea and Josh Klinghoffer came onstage to explain why they were unable to perform. "We live to rock, we live to f**king dig deep into the depths of our hearts and rock, but unfortunately there's a medical thing that happened and we needed to deal with it, so we're unable tonight," Flea said. "We will play for you very soon, we will play for you like the feral animals that we are, and we're so sorry."

Red Hot Chili Peppers was supposed to perform at the annual Weenie Roast this year along with Panic At the Disco, Garbage, Cold War Kids, Fitz and the Tantrums, Empire of the Sun and Weezer. They are next scheduled to take the stage at iHeartRadio Theater in Burbank, California on May 17.
