Jason Statham to Fight Against Giant Shark in 'Meg'
Movie

The film based on Steve Alten's novel will apparently see Statham's character battling 'Carcharodon megalodon, the massive mother of the great white shark.'

Jason Statham is done defeating his human enemies, so he's now looking forward to taking on a giant shark. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is set to star in "Meg" that will now be directed by "National Treasure" helmer Jon Turteltaub.

The movie, which was originally set up in 1997 at Disney, is based on Steve Alten's novel "Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror" which centers on a Carcharodon Megalodon, 70-foot, 40-ton prehistoric ancient shark considered as the most powerful predator in history.

Details about Statham's character are still unknown, but there's been speculation that he may play the novel's hero Jonas Taylor. According to Alten's official website, the character once "found himself face-to-face with the largest and most ferocious predator in the history of the animal kingdom" during a "top-secret dive into the Pacific Ocean's deepest canyon."

The sole survivor of the mission, Taylor is haunted by what he's sure he saw but still can't prove exists - Carcharodon megalodon, the massive mother of the great white shark. With the help of an old friend and a hotshot female submarine pilot, he dives "deeper than he ever has before" and "will face terror like he's never imagined."

"Meg" is being made by Warner Bros. and Chinese company Gravity. James Vanderbilt ("The Amazing Spider-Man", "Independence Day: Resurgence") wrote the script.
