The 'Boyhood' actor is joining Rihanna, Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne and Clive Owen in the upcoming sci-fi action flick.

AceShowbiz - Ethan Hawke has signed on to star in Luc Besson's upcoming sci-fi, action flick "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets". The "Boyhood" actor is joining the star-studded cast which already has Rihanna, Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne and Clive Owen on board.

Luc made the announcement on Instagram on Saturday night, December 5. "Ethan Hawke will play in #Valerian! I want to work with for years! We gonna have fun!!!" the director wrote alongside a black-and-white photo of Ethan.

It's unknown what role Ethan will play in the movie adaptation of Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres' popular 1967 novel. The film is expected to start production in January 2016 for a July 21, 2017 release.

Dane will portray the titular space-and-time-traveling Valerian, Cara will star as his red-haired companion Laureline, while Clive will play Commander Arun Filitt. Like Ethan, it remains unknown what role Rihanna will play, but Luc said it's significant.
