'Star Wars: The Force Awakens': Find Out the Reasons Why Luke Skywalker Disappears
Movie

Director J.J. Abrams and Mark Hamill address the question about the disappearance of the Jedi Master in the movie's posters and trailers.

AceShowbiz - There have been so many pictures, videos and even rumors about "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", but there is one big question that remains unanswered: Where is Luke Skywalker? It has been confirmed that Mark Hamill is returning to play the Jedi, but he was notably absent from any pictures, posters and trailers of the movie. In an interview with EW, director J.J. Abrams and Mark address the question, saying that "no one forgot about him."

The director hints that Luke is definitely in the film and he plays an important role, despite his absence in all posters and trailers. "We were hoping people would care, but there are a lot of things that are not on the poster, as busy as the poster is. Certainly Luke is a very important aspect of the story," the director says.

Meanwhile, Mark decides to remain silent when asked about the details of his character in the upcoming story. "I'd like to answer that, but it would give away the secrets of 'Episode VII'," Mark replies. "That would be young children. Because they don't understand non-disclosure agreements, they just want to know what's going on. It's not been easy, but the wait will soon be over," he adds.

However, Mark does provide some general explanation about Luke and says that he is really impressed with the story. "That's the beauty of the story, is it leaves it up to the audience's imagination," he says. "It was the story of a boy going from a farm boy to a Jedi Master, and I always thought it was amusing, and if you put it in terms of 'James Bond', it would be like telling the story of how he got his license to kill, and then stopping and never telling any stories of what his adventures were. But that was just the structure of the movie, so it leaves it to the audience."

Another question fans have been asking is what Supreme Leader Snoke will look like when he appears in the upcoming movie. Even the actor who portrays the villainous character, Andy Serkis, doesn't have any idea about that. "It's the first time I've been on set not yet knowing what the character's gonna look like. I mean, talk about secrecy!" the actor says.

The character is presumably created by merging human performance with digital character. Thus, when asked about whether Snoke is a practical creature, Andy is quick to deny it. "No, no. The scale of him, for instance, is one reason. He is large. He appears tall. And also just the facial design - you couldn't have gotten there with prosthetics. It's too extreme," Andy explains. "Without giving too much away at this point, he has a very distinctive, idiosyncratic bone structure and facial structure. You could never have done it [in real life.]"

The 51-year-old actor also teases fans with some details about the character, hinting that he has a "huge agenda" in "The Force Awakens". "Supreme Leader Snoke is quite an enigmatic character, and strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful," Andy points out. "Obviously he has a huge agenda. He has suffered a lot of damage. As I said, there is a strange vulnerability to him, which belies his true agenda, I suppose."

"The Force Awakens" brings back Harrison Ford as Han Solo and Carrie Fisher as Leia, while also introducing some new characters played by Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac. Produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Bryan Burk and Abrams, the sci-fi movie is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on December 18.
