AceShowbiz - "The Mummy" remake may get a gender-swapped twist. According to a scoop from the Hollywood Reporter, Universal is open to the idea of bringing back the undead creature as a female in the upcoming reboot.

The gender of the monster in the new film reportedly will depend on the casting. They are allegedly preparing for two story options; one that centers on a female monster and the other that revolves around a male.

The movie is expected to take place in the modern day. Alex Kurtzman serves as a director and Jon Spaihts writes the script. It's planned for a March 24, 2017 release in the United States.

One of the rumored plots floating on the internet is the story of a Navy Seal who stumbles into a centuries old tomb in the Iraqi desert during his mission to find a group of terrorists hiding out in a bunker.

The project is a part of Universal's big plan to bring together fans' favorite monsters from the studio's classic films in one big assemble movie. It include iconic characters like Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and The Invisible Man.
