The fireworks show from a boat party held outside Marina del Rey harbor by Khloe Kardashian on Wednesday to celebrate her boyfriend James Harden's birthday has sparked calls for investigation. Local residents who weren't notified about the fireworks were furious when their households were disrupted and woken at midnight by the loud display that lasted around 8 minutes.
The officials are pointing fingers at each other. According to LA Times, the Coast Guard said the Kardashian boat had been checked out for safety precaution. Meanwhile, no permit was needed because it happened in open water about a mile from the marina. Any concerns about time and noise were supposed to be handled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, they said.
However, the Sheriff's Department said it was not their jurisdiction either since it was launched from the vessel about 100 feet outside the Marina del Rey. But they promised to investigate the situation and work on "a fireworks permit corrective action plan" that would ensure "future outdoor fireworks displays consider time of day and appropriate community outreach."
