An "Emoji" movie is being developed at Sony Pictures Animation. According to Deadline, the studio has won a bidding war against two other major companies, Paramount and the home of "The Lego Movie" Warner Brothers, in a near-seven-figure deal.

Details on the storyline are still scarce but the script is co-written by Eric Siegel ("Men at Work") and Anthony Leondis ("Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters"). Leondis is also expected to sit behind the lens for this upcoming untitled project.

Unlike the toy brand Lego which is owned by a Denmark-based company, Emoji is a public domain so it's free to grab. Deadline reports that another pitch is going to be shopped around soon, which means that the Sony adaptation may face competition from rivaling project.

Following "The Lego Movie" big success, Hollywood has been working on similar projects. "Pixels" which includes the famous video game character PacMan is coming out this coming weekend. "Minecraft" and "Play-Doh" are going to follow next.
