Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac will star as the lead role in upcoming romance movie "The Promise". According to TheWrap, Oscar-winning director Terry Rwanda ("Hotel Rwanda") will direct the project from a script he co-wrote with Robin Swicord ("Memoirs of a Geisha").

The project will be produced by Mike Medavoy ("Black Swan"), Eric Esrailian, Ralph Winter ("X-Men") and William Horberg ("Milk"). Filming is set to begin this fall in Southern Europe including Portugal and the Canary Islands.

Set during the Ottoman Empire, which was dissolved in 1922 following the Armenian Genocide of 1915, "The Promise" tells a story about a love triangle between Michael (Oscar), Ana and Chris (Christian). Michael is medical student who is conflicted by his love for Ana and old-world traditions while Chris is an AP reporter who falls in love with both Ana and the danger of being in a combat zone.

Christian most recently wrapped "The Big Short" in which he stars along with Brad Pitt. He was planning to star in Travis McGee's movie "The Deep Blue Good-by", but the project was delayed after he sustained injury.

Following the success of "Ex Machina (2015)", Oscar is starring in two upcoming movies "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "X-Men Apocalypse", as well as new HBO miniseries "Show Me a Hero".
