'Modern Family' Star Ariel Winter Thanks Sister and Father After She Is Emancipated

After a long family drama with her mother, the Alex Dunphy of 'Modern Family' announces that she is officially emancipated.

AceShowbiz - After a long custody battle, Ariel Winter is finally emancipated. The "Modern Family" actress who turned 17 in January takes it to Twitter to thank her older sister Shanelle Gray and her father Glenn Workman for their support and guidance.

"I am now officially emancipated!!!" the brunette beauty wrote. "I'm really lucky I have an amazing support system and lovely people in my life who have given me the support and guidance to have been given this wonderful opportunity."

She added, "Most importantly I want to thank @shanelle_gray and my father for their special support regarding this matter, I really couldn't have done it without them. Thank you to all of my family, friends, and fans who have supported me through all of my endeavors in life, and have encouraged me. Thank you for making my life so special! I can't wait to embark on my new adventures."

Ariel Winter known for her role as Alex Dunphy on the ABC sitcom was removed from her mother Chrisoula "Chrystal" Workman's home in November 2012 after alleged physical and emotional abuse. Her sister was later named her guardian and her father stepped in to help manage her financial affairs. Her mother initially fought the court's decision but eventually reached an agreement before it would have gone to trial.
