"The Office" spin-off movie is happening with Entertainment One and BBC Films having come on board financing. eOne will directly distribute the film in the U.K. and Australia/New Zealand with worldwide sales set to be launched in Cannes through eOne Features.
The spin-off movie, called "Life on the Road", will be a mockumentary that revolves around a documentary crew catching up with Ricky Gervais' David Brent character, former star of the British version of "The Office", who is now working as a travelling salesman, as he chases his dream of rock stardom by self-financing a U.K. tour with his band "Foregone Conclusion". In addition to starring in, Gervais will be on hand directing and writing the script.
Speaking of the upcoming spin-off, Gervais was quoted as raving, "I'm so excited that the world will see what David Brent is up to now and where his future lies." The actor added, "This film delves much more into his private life than 'The Office' ever did and we really get to peel back the layers of this extraordinary, ordinary man."
