James Wan in Talks to Direct Sony's 'Robotech'


The 'Furious 7' director enters negotiations to serve behind the lens for an upcoming adaptation of the anime featuring giant robots.
James Wan is circling "Robotech" at Sony. Fresh off his directorial project "Furious 7" which became a massive hit for Universal, the filmmaker is courted to helm an adaptation of the anime featuring giant armored warriors.

The movie was initially developed at Warner Bros. before landing at Sony. "Immortals" and "300" producers Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton are involved in the upcoming feature film. No other details are available.

The story is set at a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific island. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off three successive waves of alien invasions.

James Wan becomes a hot demand after his success with "Furious 7". Universal hopes to sign him on for the sequel "Fast and Furious 8", while Warner Bros. is eying him for "Aquaman". In the meantime, the director is preparing for "The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist".
