While "Shrek Forever After" was proclaimed as the final chapter of the green swamp-dweller's story in 2010, Antonio Banderas hinted that Mike Myers and Shrek might appear in upcoming movie "Puss in Boots 2: Nine Lives & 40 Thieves".

"I heard some rumours that Shrek my be coming back," the actor who lent his voice for Puss in Boots told the Empire's podcast. "That would be great. Shrek doing a cameo... in MY movie? Uh, huh! Yeah, I'd like that."

The sequel of 2011's "Puss in Boots" is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on December 21, 2018. Antonio said, "The process for these movies are way longer than people think. They are restructuring the script now. We started... but that's the process."

He explained, "A lot of people participate in the creation of the script and the story and the narrative, everything. And they include you! They take you to California and you read the script with them, give them your ideas, and a couple of months later you see a new script where everything has been touched [up]."

"Puss in Boots 2" will be directed by its original director Chris Miller. Guillermo del Toro is expected to return as executive producer with 20th Century Fox serving as the distributor.
