The singer has explained that the song, which will appear on his upcoming debut album, was originally created for his band Fun.'s next LP.

AceShowbiz - While Fun. is currently on hiatus, frontman Nate Ruess has officially become a solo singer. He dropped on Monday, February 23 his debut single "Nothing Without Love" and its accompanying music video.

Directed by Anthony Mandler, the clip opens with Ruess floating alone in the sea while singing the first few lines of the song a capella. He's later seen strolling around an empty city before numerous people appear and walk past him.

"Nothing Without Love" is the first offering from Ruess' upcoming debut album, which is due out later this year. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the musician revealed that the song was originally created for the next Fun. LP.

He, however, eventually kept it for himself and wrote the lyrics based on what was going on with his life at the time, especially his relationship with designer Charlotte Ronson.

"It felt so believable; I was saying what I was thinking," Ruess said. "This is the first time I've been comfortable in my own skin, and it's with someone who's comfortable in their own skin. The reason I'm making a solo album is because it's the first time."
