TV

Sinise will play the head of the FBI's top team for handling cases involving Americans abroad in the spin-off that will air as an episode of the original series.

AceShowbiz - Gary Sinise will be back fighting crimes again on TV. The Emmy-winning actor who starred on "CSI: NY" is set to headline a new "Criminal Minds" spin-off being developed by CBS.

Sinise will play Jack Garrett, the leader of a division of the FBI's Analysis Unit. Garrett is described as a 20-year veteran of the Bureau, who is currently in charge of the FBI's top team for handling cases involving Americans abroad.

The proposed spin-off will air as a planted episode in the mothership series. Filming will begin in mid-February. "Criminal Minds" showrunner Erica Messer will pen the script and executive produce the pilot along with Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper.

Since "CSI: NY" ended its nine-season run in 2013, Oscar-nominated actor Sinise has dedicated his time focusing on his humanitarian work via the Gary Sinise Foundation.

"Criminal Minds" is currently one of the most-watched shows on CBS. The police procedural drama has spawned a spin-off, "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior", which aired in 2011, but it was canceled after only 13 episodes due to low ratings.
