The '12 Years a Slave' director is set to reteam with New Regency to adapt Lynda La Plante's classic British show into the big screen.

AceShowbiz - Steve McQueen is adapting British TV series "Widows" for big screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie becomes a passion project for the "12 Years a Slave" helmer who was a big fan of the Lynda La Plante heist show growing up.
The story begins when three armed robbers are killed during a robbery. Their surviving widows then come together and enlist the help of a fourth woman to try to finish the failed job. At the same time, they discover there was a "fourth man" in the raid.
The original series aired in 1983, followed by "Widows 2" in 1985 and "She's Out!" in 1995. It was remade for U.S. market in 2002 with Mercedes Ruehl, Brooke Shields, Rosie Perez, and N'Bushe Wright among the cast ensemble.
McQueen will reunite with "12 Years a Slave" producer and financier New Regency for the adaptation. In addition to doing a "Widows" remake, the director is also reportedly eying a biopic about civil rights activist Paul Robeson.
