AceShowbiz - Martial art blockbuster "Kung Fu Hustle" is set to invade Chinese theaters again, but this time in 3D. Sony/Columbia Pictures, together with China Film Group and Huayi Brothers, is set to re-release the Stephen Chow film in both Mandarin and Cantonese to mark the pic's tenth anniversary.
Originally released in December 2004, the actioner was a hit outside China as well. Grossing over $101 million worldwide, $17 million of them came from North America. Yet, a spokesman for Sony said there's no plan for the 3D re-release Stateside.
"Kung Fu Hustle 3D" will be released in mainland China on December 24. The version is not only enhanced visually but also upgraded in its sound effects. "It is not just a restoration, but also a comprehensive enhancement," a press release said.
Another Asian movie which is set to be re-released in 3D is Wong Kar Wai's "The Grandmasters". Bona Film Group is to mark the second anniversary of its initial release on January 8, 2015 with the 3D version.
