'Saturday Night Live' Adds Leslie Jones as Featured Player

The comedian who joined the NBC variety series as a writer in January will start her new gig this weekend.

AceShowbiz - "Saturday Night Live" has a new cast member. Leslie Jones, who joined the show as a writer in January, has been promoted to a featured player. She will start her new gig in this week's episode which will be hosted by Jim Carrey.

Jones, who will continue to write on "SNL", has been featured several times on "Weekend Update", most recently appearing in the October 11 episode hosted by "SNL" alum Bill Hader. She was vying for a spot in the main cast in 2013 which eventually went to Sasheer Zamata.

"SNL" has previously added two new comedians to the cast for the 40th season. Pete Davidson and new "Weekend Update" co-anchor Michael Che were announced as featured players before the current season kicked off.
