FX's 'Archer' Will Drop ISIS in Season 6

The acronym, which has been used to define the spy agency for the past five years, will be subtly removed once and for all in the upcoming season.

Since the term ISIS has been linked to a terrorist group, "Archer" will no longer use the abbreviation. The animated series on FX had been using ISIS (International Secret Intelligence Service) as the name of the spy agency but the acronym will no longer appear or be spoken of in season 6.

"We won't say ISIS anymore, and the only visual representation of it will be that sign rolling off the show," executive producer Matt Thompson told The Daily Beast. "It's just the most awful thing, and we didn't want to have anything to do with it."

But the removal would be made into a story. "That (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) doesn't exist in our universe," said co-executive producer Casey Willis. "But now we're (the agency) working with the CIA so that's the banner that we're under now."

However, they will still address the elephant in the room. A quick mention of the radical group will be within the first few minutes of the new season. "In the first episode of the new season, I think we address it in a very smart and subtle way," Willis added.

Show creator Adam Reed joked, "I was at a meeting with the FX execs and I said, 'You know, with all this extra ISIS merchandise, you should just make the bad guys buy it.' Dead silence. And then they said, 'We have a lot of ISIS merchandise.' So I guess that's all going to a landfill somewhere."

Meanwhile, voice cast Judy Greer was still reeling on coining the term first. "I was like, 'Do you not watch 'Archer' because we already have that name'," the actress who plays Cheryl said. "They need to come up with a new name."

The sixth season of "Archer" begins early 2015. Archer is now taking a new role as a father to Lana's baby girl. H. Jon Benjamin said of his character, "He's doing a really poor job." There will be a guest voice coming from Allison Tolman who plays Pam's sister.
