"The Drowning", an iPhone game published in 2013 by Tokyo-based publisher DeNA, is coming to the big screen. Radar Pictures has hired "Olympus Has Fallen" and "The Expendables 3" writer duo Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt to adapt the video game.

"The Drowning" is set in a post-apocalyptic future where a deep-sea oil-drilling accident causes ancient micro-organisms to be released into the water supply of an island town off the Seattle coast and turns millions into soulless monsters. The game is a first-person shooter which requires players to scavenge for weapons and survival gear to escape the inhuman world.

Per Deadline, Radar Pictures' Ted Field, Mike Weber, and Michael Napoliello are producing the film while Tom Van Dell and Jason Moskowitz are executive producing.

Radar Pictures had a hand in the most recent remakes of "The Amityville Horror" and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre".
