During a recent episode on 'The View', Goldberg goes emotional when Crystal recalls some stories about their dear friend who killed himself last month.

AceShowbiz - Whoopi Goldberg held back her tears when Billy Crystal recalled moments he shared with their close friend Robin Williams during an appearance on her show "The View". During the Friday, September 19 appearance to promote his book "Still Foolin' 'em: Where I've Been, Where I'm Going, and Where the Hell Are My Keys?", Crystal talked about stories of their dear friend who committed suicide last month.

"We started in 1986 and we became the closest of friends. Robin and I just bonded in the quiet moments," the "When Harry Met Sally" star said. "[We were] very fiercely protective of each other, in great ways. The phone calls - we talked about doing an album, like let's take these phone calls, we were like two jazz musicians, late at night I'd get these calls and we'd go for hours and we never spoke as ourselves."

Crystal also reminisced how he and Williams gushed over Goldberg's performance when she hosted the Oscars. "We were very protective of Whoopi. When you would host the Oscars and... Robin would be in San Francisco and I'd be in L.A... she'd do an opening, phone would ring. 'How do you think she's doing, boss?' and I was going, 'It was good, really strong opening; it was great.' Five minutes later you'd done your first intro [and he'd call again], 'What do you think?' [I'd reply], 'I think it was really good.' The whole show would be the two of us on the phone," the actor said.

After regaining her composure, Goldberg spoke of their fundraising activities with Comic Relief. "I would just sit and you didn't want to do anything, you'd just want to watch these fools," she said.
