'The Voice' Winner Josh Kaufman Lands Title Role in Broadway's 'Pippin'

The former contestant on NBC's singing competition series will front the Tony-winning musical revival for a limited engagement.

AceShowbiz - From a reality competition series, Josh Kaufman goes to Broadway. The winner of "The Voice" season 6 is set to portray the title role in the Broadway revival of "Pippin" for a limited engagement.

"It's something I'm really excited about," he said about the gig, which marks his Broadway debut. "I tend to be the kind of person who doesn't want to do just one thing. I get bored. So I'm really excited about having a new challenge and having something different to do."

The singer will portray the young eighth-century prince and son of the first Holy Roman Emperor who seeks to find his place in the world, or his "corner of the sky." He will headline the musical from November 4 through January 4.

The Tony-winning revival opened at Broadway's Music Box Theatre on April 25, 2013 and features pop-rock music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and boasts a book by Roger O. Hirson. Diane Paulus serves as director.

Kyle Dean Massey currently stars as the title character and will exit on November 2. He is joined by Carly Hughes who portrays the Leading Player.
