A remake to the popular 1997 horror flick is a project that Sony Pictures wants up and ready for theatrical release in 2016.

AceShowbiz - The popular 1990s horror franchise "I Know What You Did Last Summer" is back alive. Sony Pictures is mulling plans to reboot the film which "is somewhat of a safe bet for Sony - a proven title that can be cast on the cheap and done on a lower budget," Deadline reports.
"Oculus" co-writer/director Mike Flanagan and his partner Jeff Howard are writing the reboot. Original film's producer Neal H. Moritz is also on board to produce the new film. Despite giving it a tight budget, Sony is treating this project as high priority with the plan to release it in 2016.
The first film which was released in 1997 helped define slasher movies of the decade. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillippe star as friends who decided to ditch the body instead of going to the police after hitting the victim with their car. A serial killer with trademark hook haunted them, claiming he knew everything.
The film, which was based on 1973's novel of the same name, grossed $125 million worldwide and spawned a sequel "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" in 1998. A direct-to-DVD release "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer" in 2006 featured none of the original cast.
