'Scandal' Recasts Fitz's Daughter With Mary Mouser
TV

The First Daughter was portrayed by Madeline Carroll in season 3, but she could not return in season 4 due to scheduling issues.

"Scandal" will return with a new face in the role of the First Daughter when the fourth season kicks off later this month. The show replaces Madeline Carroll with "Body of Proof" alum Mary Mouser as Fitz's daughter.

The First Daughter, Karen Grant, first appeared on the ABC drama series in season 3 when she came to visit the White House while on break from boarding school. Carroll, however, couldn't return in the upcoming installment due to scheduling issues.

Mouser will first appear in an episode scheduled to air in October, while the show itself returns with the new season Thursday, September 25 at 9 P.M. on ABC.

Columbus Short, who played OPA gladiator Harrison Wright, won't return in season 4 either following his legal issues, but the role won't be recast. Series creator Shonda Rhimes has said that Harrison's "absence will be explained definitively. What you think happened to his character happened to his character."

Meanwhile, Portia de Rossi is cast in a "top secret" role. She will appear in multiple episodes.
