The 'Law and Order: Criminal Intent' alum is cast as Wilson Fisk, an antagonist character in Marvel universe.

AceShowbiz - Vincent D'Onofrio has come aboard Netflix's "Daredevil" for a villainous role. The actor, best known for his role as Detective Robert Goren on NBC's series "Law & Order: Criminal Intent", is cast as Wilson Fisk a.k.a. The Kingpin.

He is described as "a powerful businessman whose interests in the future of Hell's Kitchen will bring him into conflict with Murdock." While the character is a major antagonist in Marvel universe and in 2003's "Daredevil, The Movie", The Hollywood Reporter says he's unlikely a "supervillain" on the new TV series.

"We're incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining 'Marvel's Daredevil' in such an integral role," says Jeph Loeb, Marvel's head of television. "Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero."

"Boardwalk Empire" alum Charlie Cox has been earlier cast as the titular hero and his blind lawyer alter ego Matt Murdock. The 13-episode drama series is part of a massive deal between Netflix and Marvel. It will be followed by TV series about Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage that will culminate in a miniseries titled "The Defenders".

Steven S. DeKnight is tapped as a showrunner, replacing Drew Goddard who will remain as executive producer and consultant. Filming is scheduled to take place later this summer in New York for a 2015 premiere.

D'Onofrio also starred as Private Leonard Lawrence in the 1987 war film "Full Metal Jacket" and as Edgar in "Men in Black". He has also landed a role in "Jurassic World", the fourth installment of the "Jurassic Park" film franchise, which is due June 12, 2015 in the United States.
