'Brave' helmer and 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' scribe are among the names mentioned to possibly tackle the new superhero movie based on Marvel's property.

AceShowbiz - Marvel is eying directors for "Dr. Strange". According to The Hollywood Reporter, four helmers have been courted to help bring the Stephen Strange story to the big screen for another Phase Three project. The studio is also actively pursuing writers to pen the screenplay.
The candidates are Mark Andrews who co-directed and co-wrote Pixar's "Brave"; Nikolaj Arcel who co-scripted "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and directed last year's Oscar best foreign film nominee "A Royal Affair"; Dean Israelite who helmed Michael Bay's time-travel movie "Welcome to Yesterday"; and Jonathan Levine who directed "50/50".
Marvel is looking for a director and a writer who can work in tandem or a director who can do both tasks. The project has been in development hell for several years. The studio previously worked on an origin story draft by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly.
Doctor Strange's story is tricky to tackle. Unlike many other superheroes who gained their powers from super serum, gamma radiations or their alien roots, he got his from mystical origins. The arrogant and selfish surgeon sees a conventional healing in Tibet after his hands were damaged in a car accident.
Johnny Depp was reportedly in talks for the lead role, but the rumor was conflicted with denial.
