The actresses playing Brody's wife and daughter will be downgraded in the next installment after they appear less frequently in the ongoing season 3.

AceShowbiz - Two of "Homeland" original cast members won't return as series regulars in season 4. TVLine reports that Morena Bacarin and Morgan Saylor will be downgraded when the show enters a new chapter in 2014, but there's a possibility that they'll return on a guest-star basis.

The news comes as no surprise since Baccarin and Saylor, who play Brody's wife Jessica and teenage daughter Dana respectively, have got less screen time in the currently airing season 3. Following Brody's escape in the aftermath of the CIA attack, the focus shifted from his family to Dana in the beginning of the season.

"Because Brody was not onscreen and not part of the story in those first couple of episodes, we really wanted to tell the aftermath of the bombing in a more personal way," showrunner Alex Gansa said of the shifted focus.

"The relationship between Dana and her father is very strong. It's stronger than his relationship with Jessica and certainly stronger than his relationship with [son] Chris [Jackson Pace]."

As for Baccarin who earned an Emmy nomination for her role on the Showtime drama, her real-life pregnancy might contribute to her character's disappearance during the second half of the season.

"Homeland" will air its third season finale on Sunday, December 15 at 9/8c.
