Tom Hanks takes on another heroic role in "Captain Phillips" and his performance has been previewed in a first trailer for the movie. Making its way out via Apple, the video shows the Oscar-winning actor as Captain Richard Phillips who is in charge of a cargo ship.

He notices that two unidentified vessels are rapidly approaching his ship and alerts the coast guard, which provides little help. Things get intense as the pirates are shooting fires to the vessel and get onto the ship, with one of them declaring himself the new captain of the ship.

Paul Greengrass, who directed "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum", serves behind the lens for "Captain Phillips". Written by Billy Ray, the film is based on the true story of the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.

Also starring Catherine Keener as Captain Phillips' wife, the action-thriller is set to hit U.S. theaters on October 11.
