GK Films' musical project "Jersey Boys" is close to find its director. Variety has learned that "Iron Man" helmer Jon Favreau has become the frontrunner to tackle the directing duty for the big screen adaptation of the famous Broadway play "Jersey Boys: The Story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons".

"Jersey Boys" revolves around the rise of the famous pop group The Four Seasons, which made its name with such signature tunes as "Sherry", "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Walk Like a Man". The Broadway version was opened in 2005 and has since been played in more than 200 performances.

Back in 2010, GK obtained the rights to the musical and the studio has tapped "Hugo" screenwriter John Logan to provide the script. Four Seasons members, Frankie Valli and Bob Gaudio, will serve as the executive producers.

As for Favreau, the multihyphenate will return to "Iron Man 3" but will not reprise his directing duty. He has sealed a deal to return as Happy Hogan, the bodyguard of Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark. Aside from the armored hero movie, the actor-director will next be seen in "People Like Us" and "Identity Theft".
