AceShowbiz - The first batch of official stills from "Mr. Popper's Penguins" have made their way out via USA Today. Highlighting Jim Carrey's Mr. Popper with his unusual pets, the photos feature them in various places including bathroom, dining room and living room.

"Mr. Popper's Penguins" is based on a book written by Richard and Florence Atwater which has been changed to move Mr. Popper to present-day New York. The modernized story explains that Mr. Popper inherits the flightless bird from his estranged father.

The penguins manage to crack Mr. Popper's cold exterior, and soon he's cranking up the air conditioning in his stylish apartment, rolling up the rugs and piling on extra layers of clothes to make his new charges more comfortable. Carrey was filming with real Gentoo penguins from a zoo in Montreal for the movie.

Starring also Angela Lansbury and Carla Gugino, "Mr. Popper's Penguins" is made under the direction of Mark Waters. The comedy is slated to come out in theaters across the nation on August 12.
