Professional basketball player LeBron James is taking a shot at movie stardom. Variety broke the news that the 2009 NBA Most Valuable Player will star as himself in Universal Pictures' comedy "Fantasy Basketball Camp". This movie role will be the 24-year-old athlete's feature starring debut.

"I initially sought LeBron out because my 8-year-old son, Thomas, and I were just dying to meet him, but I felt that beyond being one of the world's great superstar athletes, here was someone so relaxed and comfortable with himself that he would have the capability to be that way onscreen," producer Brian Grazer said on the recruitment of the NBA star. "Later, when I watched him host 'Saturday Night Live,' and saw his advertising work, it was clear he can do this."

"Fantasy Basketball Camp" follows five guys from different backgrounds who go to Vegas and attend the LeBron James Adult Basketball Camp. Meeting their hero at the camp, they end up dragging James into their own life issues which range from serious to idiotic. Screenwriters Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel are penning the script, but no director or other cast are attached just yet. Production is expected to begin in summer 2010.

Before he falls into the production though, LeBron James will have his documentary "More Than a Game" released in limited theaters in October. The screening will start on October 2 in Los Angeles and New York. The documentary follows James and four of his talented teammates through the trials and tribulations of high school basketball in Ohio as well as his journey to fame.
