Words are swirling that Rob Marshall could fill in the vacant director seat of "Pirates of the Caribbean 4". BFDealMemo has recently suggested that the man behind satire musical "Chicago" is on the verge of taking the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series' wheel from original director Gore Verbinski.
The Variety's blog moreover pointed out that Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have met a number of directors in recent weeks to move ahead with "Pirates 4" and make sure Johnny Depp star in it before he takes on "The Lone Ranger". Sources informed that though Marshall is yet to be confirmed as director, he is likely to helm the project "unless things break down at the last moment" since the mouse house has begun casting new characters.
Many details on "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" have been kept well under wraps, but this fourth film reportedly will focus solely on Captain Jack Sparrow as he embarks on a journey to find the Fountain of Youth with Captain Barbossa to "defeat some supernatural terror", leaving Elizabeth and Will out of the adventure. Johnny Depp is to reprise his eccentric pirate character, Sparrow, in the film that is planned to be shot in April and May of 2010.
Making his debut in the film industry with TV adaptation of famous musical "Annie", Rob Marshall made his mark in the business with 2002's "Chicago". The adaptation of the Kander and Ebb musical earned him his first Academy Award nomination for directing. Helming another Oscar-winning movie "Memoirs of a Geisha" as well, he currently puts finishing touch to his upcoming musical film "Nine".
