In its latest report, Variety revealed that Warner Bros. are planning to bring the bickering cat and mouse to life in the vein of "Alvin and the Chipmunks", meaning that the two cartoon characters will be developed into CG characters in live-action settings.

The classic Hanna-Barbera property will be adapted into a movie by "Terminator Salvation" executive producer Dan Lin who serves as the project's producer, while Eric Gravning is set to pen the script and Jon Silk is tapped to co-produce the film. The movie is said to be telling the origin story of Tom and Jerry, detailing on their first meeting and their rivalry. In the film, the two will be forced to work together in finding their way home after getting lost in Chicago.

Prior to "Tom and Jerry", Warner Bros. have developed several of other Hanna-Barbera's popular animated series for big screen, including "The Jetsons" and "Yogi Bear". The studio have also successfully made "Scooby-Doo" into a live-action franchise with "Scooby-Doo" in 2002 and "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed" in 2004.
