'How I Met Your Mother' creator, Craig Thomas, and CBS network have confirmed Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt's cameo for January episode.

AceShowbiz - "The Hills" couple, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, has been confirmed to make cameo appearance on the upcoming episode of "How I Met Your Mother". As reported by E! Online, CBS network has announced that Heidi and Spencer will begin filming this week for their episode which will be scheduled to air around January.
Furthermore, Craig Thomas, the series' executive producer, also gives some hint about the guest stars' role but he refuses to give detailed information towards the episode where Heidi and Spencer will be featured. To People Magazine, Thomas said, "We can confirm that Heidi and Spencer will appear on the show, but we can't give away anything specific about the episode. All we can say is that they play themselves, and one of them is the Mother."
Meanwhile, CBS gives some description that Heidi and Spencer's appearance will have something to do with Marshall Eriksen, played by Jason Segel. The couple will be playing magazine cover versions of themselves as Marshall searches for a place to "read a magazine".
Heidi and Spencer are joining other names of celebrities that already guest-starred on the sitcom, such as Britney Spears, Heidi Klum, and Mandy Moore.
