Her longtime publicist Liz Rosenberg issued a statement to the AP on Wednesday, October 15, officially confirming Madonna and Guy have agreed to end their marriage and ask for privacy.

AceShowbiz - It's official, Madonna and Guy Ritchie are divorcing, her longtime publicist, Liz Rosenberg confirmed to the Associated Press Wednesday morning, October 15. Agreeing to end their nearly-eight-year marriage, the husband-and-wife have not yet agreed to a settlement.

"Madonna and Guy Ritchie have agreed to divorce after seven-and-a-half years of marriage. They have both requested that the media maintain respect for their family at this difficult time," so read the statement that was issued by Liz. The statement reportedly was co-signed by Guy's representative.

The official confirmation of Madonna and Guy's divorce came in the wake of heavy media reports that the couple was about to announce their separation "imminently." British tabloid The Sun, which broke the report, claimed the pop superstar and the movie director have been preparing to release a statement confirming the end of their marriage as they "can't bear to live with the pretence any longer." Her desire to adopt another child and the amount of time Madonna and Guy spend for each of their careers have been cited as the causes of their separation.

The Sun, moreover, also claimed that despite the official confirmation of her and Guy's divorce, Madonna initially wanted to wait until her "Sticky & Sweet" global tour ends next year before announcing the split. The couple reportedly wanted to finalize their divorce before Christmas this year.

And while neither Madonna nor Guy has issued a statement about their highly publicized divorce, Liz told People magazine, "The main concern for Madonna and Guy are their children - the security of their children in all senses of the word and the wellbeing of their children. That's the priority for both of them moving forward. It's a sad situation."

Madonna and Guy have been married since December 2000. They have one son together, Rocco John Richie. She has one daughter from a previous relationship, Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon. In addition to them both, the pair also has one adopted son named David Banda.

Madonna, in the meantime, is in the midst of her "Sticky & Sweet" tour and is set to play Boston on Wednesday night, October 15. Guy, on the other hand, has been spotted on the set of his latest film "Sherlock Holmes" near London, filming interior scenes for the drama-thriller movie alongside its main star Robert Downey Jr..
