"My parents always wanted me to be a graduate and today it has been realized with the Leeds Metropolitan University conferring the degree, Doctor of Arts, on me," said the 32-year-old beauty upon receiving the honor, adding that "I am extremely humbled and honored".

With her being conferred an Honorary Doctorate, Miss Shetty thus becoming the youngest actor from the Indian film industry to get the honor, joining her seniors, like Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, and Yash Chopra.

Shetty, an actress and supermodel, was crowned the winner of the British "Celebrity Big Brother" on January 28, 2007 with 63% of the final vote, after an international racism controversy involving her and fellow contestants Jade Goody, Jo O'Meara and Danielle Lloyd.
