Revealing the first look of its ambitious project "The Golden Compass", New Line Cinema has brought up to the surface a teaser trailer for the fantasy adventure on the web.

Placed at Yahoo! Movies in High Definition QuickTime format, the clip starts out with a ring falling through mid-air which then transforms into a compass, along the way showing stunning visual effects while introducing the viewers glimpses of the film's impressive cast.

Based on Philip Pullman's first book of "His Dark Materials" trilogy, "Golden Compass" is set in a parallel universe and centers on a young girl named Lyra Belacqua who tries to rescue a kidnapped friend yet finds herself embarking on an epic quest to save her world. Pic will open in domestic theaters on December 7 this year.

In related news, New Line also presented a preview of ten vivid minutes of footage from the movie at this year's Cannes Film Festival. In one of the scenes shown, Lyra is spotted to be counseled by a flying witch named Serafina Pekkala, who later proves to be a close associate to the girl and her companions.
