New Line Cinema is set to bring tactical third-person shooter game "Gears of War" to the big screen.

The videogame-based movie era appears to still run steadily as New Line Cinema has come to a decision to set up "Gears of War", an adaptation of the tactical third-person shooter game developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft Game Studios, at its pit.

In bringing the project to life, the studio has already appointed "Derailed" scribe Stuart Beattie to work on the screenplay with Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey producing via their Temple Hill. No words yet on either director or cast lineup so far.

The original, designed by Clifford Bleszinski, first came up on November 7, 2006 for the Xbox 360 in selected stores in the U.S. It focuses on soldiers of Delta Squad who fight to save the human inhabitants of the fictional planet Sera from a relentless subterranean enemy known as The Locust Horde.
