"The Departed" screenwriter William Monahan is reportedly outlining a script for a follow-up to "The Departed."

AceShowbiz -

Updating news about the possibility of a sequel to "The Departed", The Hollywood Reporter has pointed out that a script for the project is indeed being worked on by "Departed" scribe William Monahan.

Trade says that the script would bring back temperamental foul-mouthed cop Dignam, played by Mark Wahlberg, while introducing a new character envisioned for Robert De Niro to play as Wahlberg previously indicated last month.

Though so, The Hollywood Reporter was careful to note that director Martin Scorsese would need to approve any take before development was to move forward. Meanwhile, Monahan's writing is said to be an original story and so, will not have anything to do with that presented in Hong Kong film "Infernal Affairs II", the follow-up to the flick on which "Departed" is based.
